India's Bharat 6G mission is an ambitious initiative aimed at making the country a leader in developing and deploying 6G technology by 2030. The vision document was prepared by TIG-6G (Technology Innovation Group on 6G) – constituted by DoT (Department of Telecommunications) in 2021
The mission will be deployed in 2 Phases:
1. Phase 1 (2023-2025): Ideation Phase
a. Understand inherent potential and risk associated
b. Test of Proof-of-Concept Implementation
2. Phase 2 (2025-2030): Conceptualisation and Delivering
1. Terahertz Communication
2. Radio Interfaces
3. Tactile Internet
4. Artificial Intelligence
1. High Spectrum Cost
2. Managing Spectrum amid a new space race: Growing number of satellites (need to inform ITU – International Telecommunication Union)
3. Inadequate Availability: Too much spectrum is occupied by MoD (Defense Ministry)
4. Policy Uncertainty: Foreing Investors might be reluctant due to delay in policy
5. Inefficient Usage: Few spectrums for commercial use compared to USA and EU
Conclusion 1:
While 6G technology is yet to be commercially available, India's visionary 6G document positions the country to become a global leader in supplying advanced, affordable telecom solutions that benefit the world
Conclusion 2:
While commercial availability of 6G technology remains pending, India’s forward-thinking 6G document propels the nation toward global leadership in providing cutting-edge and cost-effective telecom solutions that have a positive impact worldwide
